Last weekend, Pontypridd secured progress in the Welsh Cup with a 4-3 win at Ruthin Town, whilst Aber were defeated by mid-Wales rivals Newtown in a closely fought contest at Park Avenue. The two teams have met once already this season, with Pontypridd triumphing 2-1 at USW Sports Park back in September, despite a late rally from Aber and a goal from Alex Darlington. A win will take Aber Town into sixth place, for a few hours at least, before the team have a couple of weeks away from match action.
Stokes has assembled a squad with plenty of Cymru Premier experience with recognisable names such as former Penybont & Bala goalkeeper Ashley Morris, ex-Barry Town United pair Clayton Green and Luke Cummings, Joe Evans from Cardiff Met and former Carmarthen Town defender Dave Vincent all now at USW Sport Park. One player who will need no introduction to the Black & Green faithful is Owain Jones, who spent the last two seasons at Park Avenue before moving to Pontypridd in the summer. Owain made 41 league appearances in that time, bagging 7 league goals.
Ismail volleyed over for Newtown at the back stick, and Bradford denied Robles with a great challenge, then Arnsion fired a shot wide, and Nick Rushton headed over a cross from Robles. Jenkins punched clear another corner from Ismail, and an even, and rather low key half ended logically, at 1-1. After the break Flint gambolled a full 60 yards before finding Arnison, and his ball in was side footed wide by Iwan Lewis. Charley Edge then sent a super curling volley inches wide the far post. The tricky Robles crossed for the visitors and Williams headed wide, then a Jonathan Evans effort for Aber flew just over the bar.
The way the front three and wingers are clicking now, it's really positive. I hope we can keep doing what we're doing - we're right back in the mix for fourth spot. "It was fast and furious from the outset, with the Seasiders needing less than five minutes to get the scoring under way with a scrambled goal from Emily Thomas. Chambers took her chance well, fizzing her shot home after some great work from Gwenllian Jones played her through. And although the visitors had looked bright in the opening exchanges, Aber's confidence grew along with the scoreline - with Mathias, dominant at the back, adding the goal her performance deserved in the 22nd minute. Evans notched the fourth a couple of minutes before half-time, latching on to a long ball through and sliding it home. Mackenzie Olden got a consolation for Barry Town United 15 minutes from time before late substitute Amy Jenkins put the icing on the cake of victory with a thunderbolt of a free kick.
I've got full belief in our squad. Goals from Emily Thomas, Shauna Chambers, Rebecca Mathias, Ffiona Evans and substitute Amy Jenkins sealed their second thumping home win in as many weeks - lifting them up to fifth in the Adran Premier table. "Scoring goals was something we weren't doing enough of - perhaps we've turned the corner now, " said a delighted captain Kelly Thomas. "These were well-worked goals - they weren't flukes. They were team goals, amazing to watch.

After an impeccably observed minute’s silence and Last Post, the game started in a slightly cautious manner. Harry Arnison had Aber’s first shot deflected for a corner, then Niall Flint had a left foot volley grabbed by Dave Jones in Newtown’s goal. Then Newtown took the lead unexpectedly as a left wing cross found Aaron Williams unmarked in the box, and he headed the Powys men ahead. Arnison flicked another couple of balls into the box, in vain, and then Zeli Ismail had a free kick repelled for Newtown. A cross ball from Louis Robles was palmed over by the alert Leigh Jenkins in Aber’s goal, but then at the other end the impeccable Louis Bradford pressed up high, won the ball in the box and side footed the ball home into the bottom corner for a sweet equaliser.
Aaron Williams gave Newtown the lead on 20 minutes, but Louis Bradford equalised for the Black and Greens eleven minutes later. Nick Rushton grabbed a late goal seven minutes from time, and sub Nigel Aris gave the scoreline a harsh outlook with a 92nd minute third, before being sent off two minutes later. A decent crowd of 360 turned up, including a good contingent of Robins supporters who had made a day of it on the train.

"It's been a fantastic couple of weeks for the girls, " he said. "A draw with Swansea and a couple of wins and the confidence is developing. "After changing our system, I think we're looking good in all departments. Defensively we look strong, we're winning the first balls and the second balls. What's been evident is our attacking process, we do look as if we're causing problems and about to score every time. "And although the Seasiders are focused on the cups this week, he thinks his team are well placed to make moves in the league as well. "We're still in the mix, " he said. "Our goal was to be in the top four and we have some crucial games coming up, with two of the big three coming to Aberystwyth [in January].
